Bamboo Plywood

Raft for a senior physical science class. Budget $25 Theme: Gilligan’s Island?
This is the deal. Daughter has 2 other ppl in her group. The project is to build a raft that they can row across the pond at their school. She would like to use 55 gallon buckets but we are having a hard time finding those. My thought would be to use possibly 4 inner tubes, plywood, rope & bamboo. That all sounds good BUT how in the world to construct it??? I am a mom so i am NOT mechanically inclined at all!! Please help!!
this sounds fun! man i wish i had kids sometimes especially if it means you get to make rafts.
ok so the 55 gallon drums would work really well but if you cant find them they wont work at all im guessing,(try calling some paint companys, like companys that would come out and paint your house, look them up in your phone book, they MIGHT have some drums laying around)if not then yes innertubes will work. make sure they are the really sturdy type though , the big black tractor innertubes with really think rubber. depending on how big the raft needs to be buy an appropriate amount. plywood will work just fine for a platform (im guessing one sheet of plywood and two innertubes would be adequate) drill a holes in the plywood where the center of the innertubes would be so that you can run rope through the holes and through the innertubes around the sides and back.best for stability if you have rope goin two directions for each tube, i wish i could draw you a diagram lol hopefully you get the idea. pretty much after that you can dress up the platform anyway you want, you could hot glue the bamboo to the plywood or for it to be stronger use liquid nail, they sell that at hardware stores and homedepot, its will glue ANYTHING
Better Lathe Than Never
